迷因 or迷因体, or another translation that I prefer—梗梗图 are what we consider memes.

Internet memes come in all sorts of forms, be it images, videos, emojis, clips words etc. The possibility is almost infinite.

And memes are not just your funny daily emojis you send with your friends on WeChat, but also the collective emotions, feelings, and thoughts of people.

Learning about memes, is a gateway towards Western Culture. In hindsight, it's a great way to learn about Western Internet culture as well.
